OUR PROJECTS

IANRA Week of Action: In 2012, the First Annual IANRA Week of Action is taking place from 25-31 March. From South Africa to DRC to Kenya, IANRA national networks in 9 countries in Africa are holding various activities to highlight our call: "Without just and effective laws, leave our natural resources alone!" Community Monitoring School: Community representatives learn to monitor, document and report on environmental impacts of mining in Malawi, Zambia, and South Africa, 2010-2012. Road to Remedy Caravan: A participatory learning exchange programme. Mining community and NGO representatives from Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa traveled by road from Johannesburg to Mombasa, sharing information, advocacy strategies, and community impacts with mining communities in all four countries, 2011. Uranium Mining Research and Learning Project: This was a comparative study of uranium mining in Malawi and Zambia, with input from the Netherlands as well. World Bank Policy Review and Critique: This project resulted in a paper which reviewed World Bank policies related to extractive industries. Pan-African Parliament Collaboration: This project began in 2011, with dialogue between IANRA and the PAP Committee on Justice and Human Rights, to work toward human rights protection and promotion while at the same time promoting inclusive national development in Africa. African Commission on Human Rights Advocacy: IANRA has begun having representation at the ACHPR official sessions, since October 2011. IANRA has also begun interacting and sharing information with the ACHPR NGO forum, the ACHPR NGOs working with the ACHPR Working Group on Extractive Industries. IANRA Has also began sharing more information with its members and partners on developments at the ACHPR, 2011-2012.
