The African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights is meeting from 24 October to 7 November 2011 in Banjul, the Gambia. IANRA's Coordinator, Anne Mayher, is attending the NGO Forum 19-21 October, the Commemoration of the African Charter on Human & Peoples' Rights on 22-23 October, and 4 days of the Commission's session. The ACHPR has set up an Extractive Industries Working Group with experts to advise the Commission on interventions to protect human rights related to extractive industries and other environmental issues. The NGO Forum has a Special Interest Group on Extractives, the Environment and Human Rights, in which Anne participated, and gave input on a resolution of this interest group which was presented to the NGO Forum for adoption, and for official submission to the Commission during its meeting. We encourage all IANRA members to check out aspects of the Commission's work on www.achpr.org. The Chairperson of the African Commission, Mrs. Gansou is addressing the NGO Forum's closing session now, on Friday 21 October 2011. The Resolution on Extractive Industries and the Environment, which is related to natural resources more broadly, will be posted soon.
