Pan-African Access to Information in Africa Conference

IANRA has a presence at The Pan-African Conference on Access to Information in Africa (from 17-19 September 2011). Anne Mayher, Coordinator of IANRA is attending, for more information please visit www.pacaia.org. Organisations represented include Media Institute for Southern Africa, Africa Freedom of Information Centre, Open Democracy Advice Centre, Southern Africa Resource Watch, Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa, GenderLinks, African Commission on Human & People's Rights, Pan-African Parliament, and many others. The African Platform on Access to Information is to be tabled on 19 September at the Conference. You can read Version 4.0 of the Platform Declaration here: African Platform on Access to Information. Connections between the extractives sector, natural resources more generally, and the right to access information are being discussed, with the aim of adopting this Platform on Access to Information for Africa. A model law for Access to Information is being developed as well, which can be used to craft ATI laws in African countries.
