March 2011, Cape Town
IANRA in a joint effort with EJN, Norwegian Church Aid and other Civil Society activists developed the 'alterNative Mining Declaration' on fair mining in Africa. This Declaration is developed during the 'alternative Mining Indaba' which is organised by Civil Society actors voicing concerns and developing policy alternatives on mining and advocating for practical implementation thereof.
The Alternative Mining Indaba is organised in response to the annually held Mining Indaba that aims to bring together Investors and governments interested in African mining.
After developing the Declaration, IANRA and others marched to the parliament to hand it over to the Chair of the portfolio of Mining affairs in SA on 09 Feb 2011. With the AlterNATIVE Mining Indaba Declaration, IANRA aims to enhance mining practices and policies in Africa.
